Taliesin Preservation Launches Innovative Self-Guided Tours Starting May 1st

SPRING GREEN, WI – Taliesin Preservation is excited to announce the launch of its new self-guided tour experience, starting May 1, 2025. This innovative tour option offers visitors a fresh way to explore Taliesin, Frank Lloyd Wright’s home, at their own pace using an iPad provided to them that’s filled with exclusive audio and video content.

“Visitors will be able to hear Wright’s voice and watch archival footage of him, see original drawings, and view rare snapshots of the Taliesin Fellowship. They’ll even witness personal moments like Wright enjoying coffee and playing piano in his living room,” says Taliesin Preservation Communications Coordinator tour co-creator Elizabeth Maske. “You can also learn directly from Wright himself as he explains signature elements of organic architecture in his house, such as corner windows and cantilevers.” Further narrated by Taliesin Preservation Tour Manager and fellow co-creator Erin Crowley, the experience allows guests to explore Taliesin at their own pace and choose how deeply they want to engage with the content.

Developed for those who appreciate solo exploration, this new format complements Taliesin’s award-winning guided tours, which remain the most in-depth way to explore the estate, ask questions, and engage with an experienced guide. “The self-guided tour marks a new chapter in how visitors experience Taliesin, blending the latest technology with the site’s history to offer both returning guests and newcomers alike a unique way to connect with Wright’s legacy,” says Maske.

According to Carrie Rodamaker, Executive Director at Taliesin Preservation, “The self-guided tour represents our commitment to innovation and accessibility. We’re excited to see how visitors will interact with this new tool and discover Taliesin’s beauty in a new way.”

Key features of the self-guided tour include:

    • Flexibility: Explore Taliesin’s architectural wonders at your own pace for 60-90 minutes, with tours running daily in the afternoons.
    • Immersive Content: Experience Wright’s ideas and stories through rich audio narratives and multimedia visuals, including insights into his revolutionary organic architecture.
    • Interactive Exploration: Wander through Taliesin’s living spaces, gardens, and Wright’s personal drafting studio while gaining a deeper understanding of his philosophies.
The self-guided tour is part of Taliesin Preservation’s ongoing efforts to provide a broader and more inclusive experience for its visitors, reaching a more diverse audience and offering a more personalized encounter with Wright’s legacy.
